Among those who took up the challenge were students from Baitursynuly University.
Upon returning home, students from KRU’s Information Technology and Robotics programme at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Information Technology shared their experiences:
HackAlem AI set participants some demanding challenges.
Teams could choose from ten real-world cases in economics, finance and business. Each team selected an area that interested them and had just five hours to build a complete website, service or application for a company from scratch.
“It wasn’t too difficult, but we had to put in the effort,” says Vsevolod. “We reviewed a range of topics beforehand, and our previous experience helped us quickly identify the best algorithms for the tasks.”
The students competed in separate teams, each exploring a different area, from social initiatives to complex analytical services.
For KRU students, robotics goes well beyond theory. In the university’s laboratories, they work with humanoid robots, reconnaissance robots and advanced specialised modules.
“These aren’t toys! They’re machines designed for real tasks,” explains Sergey. “For example, they can work in places that are difficult to reach or dangerous. We study how microchips and sensors interact so that, in the future, we can build fully autonomous assistants.”
Experiences like these offer extensive networking opportunities and invaluable practical experience. Taking part in hackathons helps students connect with like-minded people across the country, discuss ideas with leading developers and understand where the industry is heading.
The first stage of the hackathon is now complete. The results and the names of those advancing to the second round will be announced between September 26 and 28.
Our students say the competition was strong, but they are confident in their projects and believe they have a good chance of progressing.
