Third-year students of the Chemistry educational program at the Pedagogical Institute of Kostanay Regional University have developed a training course in chemistry for schoolchildren.
A valuable initiative is being implemented by third-year students of the Chemistry program of the Department of Natural Sciences at KRU’s Pedagogical Institute. Angelina Bychenko and Alena Dushenko have developed and already launched a propaedeutic (introductory) course titled “Valeological Chemistry” for 6th-grade students of School No.19 in Kostanay. The project supervisor is Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Olga Chernyavskaya.
The course is aimed at forming students’ initial understanding of the relationship between chemical processes, human life activities, health preservation, and environmentally safe behavior.
The program content integrates knowledge from chemistry and valeology, contributing to the development of a scientific worldview, a conscious attitude toward personal health, and increased interest in studying natural sciences.
The learning process is organized in a blended format: classes take place both at the school—where KRU students regularly conduct non-standard lessons—and in the laboratories of the Pedagogical Institute.
Schoolchildren participate in demonstration and laboratory experiments, and become acquainted with the infrastructure and opportunities of natural science education at KRU.
For university students, implementing the course is an important part of their professional preparation. They gain experience in developing educational materials, conducting practice-oriented lessons, organizing group work, and applying health-preserving technologies in the educational process.
This project clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of cooperation between KRU and School No.19, as well as teachers and parents, creating conditions for early career guidance and increasing students’ motivation to study chemistry.
