A Journey to the Roots of Spirituality

This week, fourth-year history students of the Pedagogical Institute at KRU participated in an unusual class — a guided tour of the museum at the Zatobolsky Church.

The event was organized by Associate Professor Aibek Shalgimbekov of KRU.

The professor explained the main purpose of the excursion as follows:

“Spiritual harmony is the foundation of social stability. Future history teachers must understand the value of unity and mutual respect in our society.”

The museum’s custodian, Father Andrey, did not merely recount history—he brought it to life. The exhibition features rare documents, ancient books, and unique photographs revealing chapters from the founding of Kostanay, the resettlement of peasants, the lives of Kazakhs and Tatars, and the history of the region’s churches.

Particularly impressive was the story of research conducted in the archives of the KNB and the prosecutor’s office: thanks to meticulous work, the names of many repressed clergy and nuns were restored.

Students viewed rare editions from the 19th and 20th centuries and authentic artifacts imbued with the spirit of the times.

“Thank you for the opportunity to visit the museum at the church!” the students shared their impressions.

Such encounters help young historians realize that the past is a living thread connecting generations.
