An unusual class was held at Baitursynuly University as part of the Natural Sciences Department Week — a creative blend of biology and a foreign language.
The session, titled “Cell Structure,” was conducted as part of the course “Professionally-Oriented Foreign Language” for students of the Biology educational program by senior lecturers Zheniskul Bozhekenova and Viktoriya Koval.
The instructors took a creative approach, using elements of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) technology, which combined language learning, biology, and creativity.
Students staged a performance called “Cell Cottage” based on the Russian folk tale “Teremok.” Afterwards, they performed “The Cell Song” with guitar accompaniment. The students effectively demonstrated their ability to speak English using thematic vocabulary and scientific terminology.
The class turned out to be both informative and entertaining, sparking great interest among students and faculty alike.
