Learning from the Past — Building the Future

Baitursynuly University hosted the annual Altynsarin Readings — the international scientific and practical conference titled “Values as a Conceptual Foundation of Upbringing in Modern Sociocultural and Geopolitical Realities.”

The topic of the day was Kazakhstan’s Unified Program for National Upbringing. Conference speakers emphasized that educating the younger generation is a vast field for research, analysis, and practical application in personality development within today’s sociocultural context. Education is impossible without considering national values, roots, history, and traditions. These elements form the foundation of the educational system in schools, interaction with parents, and teacher training.

Speakers at the plenary session included: E.B. Kalmakov – Ministry of Education, E.M. Aliyeva – National Academy of Education named after Y. Altynsarin, D.Zh. Syundikova – Kostanay Regional Education Department, S. Otelbaeva – Y. Altynsarin Memorial Museum, E. Smetanova (Slovakia) – international partner of the university, R.Ch. Bekturganova – Advisor to the Rector, E.K. Nauryzbayeva – Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs

The conference also highlighted the relevance of Ybyrai Altynsarin’s educational philosophy in today’s national upbringing strategies.

More than 800 participants took part in the work of 5 breakout sessions, where they exchanged experience and stressed the importance of integrating educational potential in the teaching of modern school students. Topics included psychological and pedagogical support for educational, developmental, and socialization processes in schools and universities.

Recommendations from participants will be taken into account by the organizing committee — the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Special Education of the U. Sultangazin Pedagogical Institute — when planning the next Altynsarin Readings.
