Biology Students of Baitursynuly University Celebrated the Arrival of Spring with “Bird Day”
This day is celebrated worldwide on April 1st. Each year, the Department of Natural Sciences prepares for the occasion.
This time, the event was opened by the curator of the Birdwatchers’ Club and Director of the Scientific Research Center for Ecology and Biology (SRCEB), Professor Tatyana Bragina. Warm and memorable congratulatory words were shared by the Head of the Department, Gauhar Baubekova.
The leader of the Birdwatchers’ Club spoke about the kind tradition of celebrating Bird Day and the history of its origin. Special attention was given to the “Bird of the Year 2025” in the Republic of Kazakhstan — the Egyptian vulture — and the measures being taken to protect this rare species.
After the official part, students and guests took part in a quiz called “Bird Experts.” Participants identified birds by their songs, descriptions, or habitats. The celebration also featured poems about birds and the kind traditions of welcoming their spring arrival across different cultures.
The event was organized by students who are active members of the Club, led by its chair, Danil Khristinetsky.
“Bird Day” was supported by the public organization “Ecological Education Society Naurzum,” the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK), and first-year master’s students Vitaly Tabunkin and Olga Vorobyova, who are preparing dissertations on ornithological research.
