Defenders: 189 Oaths of Allegiance

On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day in Kazakhstan, graduates of the Military Department at Baitursynuly University took their military oath.

A total of 189 students participated in the ceremony: 108 future reserve officers and 81 reserve sergeants. In the near future, they will complete their studies and begin military training practice, where theoretical knowledge will be transformed into real-world experience — from classroom instruction to live-fire exercises at training grounds.

Today, however, they were at the center of attention for every camera and video lens. The solemn oath-taking ceremony became a memorable and significant event for the region.

“Taking the military oath is more than just a tradition,” noted KRU Rector Seitbek Kuanyshbayev while congratulating the graduates of the Military Department. “It is a symbol of your readiness to serve the country, protect its interests, and be a pillar of society. We are proud of you!”

Colonel Oleg Oborin, Head of the Military Department at Baitursynuly University, emphasized:

“The words of the oath are not just words. It is a solemn pledge. I am confident that our students will become достойными defenders of the Fatherland. I would also like to express special gratitude to the parents for their support, their faith in their children, and their responsible approach to upbringing.”

It is worth noting that the Military Department at KRU was established in 2016. Today, more than 100 graduates are serving in the Ministry of Defense, the National Security Committee, and other law enforcement and security agencies.

Studying at the department allows students to receive military training alongside their primary academic program. Full-time first- and second-year students may apply by passing a psychological assessment, meeting physical fitness standards, and maintaining a high GPA.

Scholarship opportunities are also highly competitive: out of approximately 150 places, around 80 are tuition-free. The higher the GPA, the higher the applicant’s ranking.

Notably, female students also successfully study at the Military Department. Today, 19 young women took the military oath alongside their fellow graduates.

We congratulate the graduates of the Military Department on this important milestone. You are the pride of KRU!
