A MODERN Solution to a Long-Standing Problem

Aigerim Sharipova, a doctoral student at Baitursynuly University, has been awarded the prestigious “Tauelsizdik Urpaktary” grant.

This achievement is not only a personal success, but also an important scientific advancement for the country’s agricultural sector.

The research project developed by our doctoral student offers a modern solution to a long-standing yet still underestimated problem.

Aigerim has created an interactive map of the distribution of blood-sucking insects in the Aktobe Region using GIS technologies and Google Maps platforms.

The project was presented at the regional digital platform Aqtobe IT Hub and has already attracted the attention of experts.

A future veterinary specialist, Aigerim has been studying the habitat of horseflies— insects that cause significant damage to livestock— for several years under the supervision of Marat Aubakirov, Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine.

Bites from these insects not only reduce livestock productivity but may also transmit dangerous diseases such as leukemia and theileriosis.

What makes the project unique?

For the first time in the Aktobe Region, a geoinformation database is being developed that will integrate more than a thousand data points on pest distribution.

This will make it possible to:

Such a tool is highly relevant. Until now, farmers have lacked accurate data on risk zones and periods of pest activity.

According to Aigerim, the research findings will help improve epizootic safety, enhance livestock productivity, and reduce economic losses for farming enterprises.
