As part of his large-scale Connecting Kazakhstan project—supported by Freedom—Asset embarked on a journey across the country’s regions.
Upon arriving in Kostanay, he posted a TikTok video in front of KRU’s main building. Impressed by the scale of the University, he reached out to our students:
“If you’d like, I can come and meet you.”
Of course we would! And before long, the blogger was exploring the buildings and facilities of our extensive university campus.
The tour began at the Pedagogical Institute. In the Laboratory of Special and Inclusive Education, Asset tried sand therapy for himself and recalled television shows featuring sand art. What impressed him most, however, was the Psychological Well-Being Laboratory:
“I really liked the room where students learn how to take the right psychological approach when working with children. It is incredibly important! I never imagined the University would take such a thoughtful and in-depth approach to relationships with both university students and schoolchildren.”
And there was much more to come. At the Pedagogical Institute’s media studio, the blogger explored Lightboard technology, green-screen production, 3D modelling, and the podcast area.
Faculty members use the studio to record online lectures, which are published even on the international Coursera platform.
KRU now has three such media studios.
A special surprise awaited the blogger at the King Sejong Institute.
“I’ve been to South Korea twice, but this is the first time I’ve ever tried on a traditional hanbok—and it happened here at KRU!” the traveller admitted.
We also discovered that the Korean game gonggi-nori, which many viewers may recognise from Season 2 of Squid Game, is remarkably similar to the traditional Kazakh games asyq and bes asyq. Chihoon Lee, our colleague from South Korea and an instructor at @king_sejong_institute_kostanay, confirmed it:
“It’s the same game as asyq atu.”
A Real Racing Car
The star attraction at KRU’s TechnoPark was the T800 racing car.
It is Kazakhstan’s first Formula Student car, designed and built by students from KRU’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Energy, and Information Technology.
It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.
Under the hood is an 800 cc engine with a powerful roar.
The blogger and his team simply could not tear themselves away from the car—and neither could the KRU staff. After taking turns behind the wheel, they held an impromptu photo shoot.
Saying goodbye to the T800 was the hardest part of the tour…
The final destination was KRU’s IT universe: the Smart Centre, home to Qostanai Hub, as well as the University’s Research Institute of Innovative Technologies.
The blogger was impressed by the cutting-edge equipment and the scale of the work carried out by our researchers.
There were selfies with students from a wide range of disciplines—from future prosecutors and marketing professionals to IT specialists and veterinarians—heart-to-heart conversations, and wishes made at the “infinity mirror” in the main building.
“Your students are highly engaged and come from such diverse backgrounds. It’s wonderful that they have so many opportunities available to them. This was my first visit to your university, and it allowed me to discover Kostanay from a completely new perspective,” Asset Murzabayev said. “KRU made me want to be a student again.”
In just one day, we were able to show our guest only a small part of what makes KRU such a remarkable university. We look forward to welcoming him back!
