Agricultural Engineering Research: Building Cooperation with China

Maksat Amantayev, Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Machinery and Transport at Baitursynuly University, visited Northwest A&F University (NWAFU, China), where he delivered a presentation to a research team at the College of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering.

His presentation was entitled “The Development of Agricultural Engineering in Kazakhstan: Research, Higher Education, Agricultural Machinery and International Cooperation”.

He outlined the key areas of agricultural engineering development in Kazakhstan, including research, specialist training, the manufacture and use of agricultural machinery, and international collaboration.

Particular attention was given to the potential of Northern Kazakhstan’s grain-growing region for the adoption of modern agricultural technologies.

Maksat Amantayev also presented promising developments in tillage and sowing technologies. His Chinese colleagues expressed interest in his research findings and Baitursynuly University’s research and educational capabilities.

The visit took place from October 12 to 18 at the invitation of Professor Jun Chen of Northwest A&F University, one of China’s leading agricultural universities and ranked among the world’s top 1,000 universities in the QS World University Rankings.

During the visit, the Kazakhstani researcher learned about the research and development undertaken by Professor Jun Chen’s team as part of ongoing projects.

He also visited NWAFU’s Agricultural Expo Park and Museum Garden, as well as Xi’an Ya’ao Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. in Xi’an.

The company is one of the largest manufacturers of tillage and sowing machinery in Shaanxi Province, with a complete production cycle.

Its manufacturing processes cover every stage, from vacuum casting and stamping of cast-iron components to the robotic manufacture of high-precision products.

Meetings with NWAFU representatives also focused on opportunities to expand research and educational cooperation.

The parties discussed joint research, the development of degree programmes, academic mobility and PhD training.

The research team led by Professor Jun Chen confirmed its interest in further cooperation with KRU.

Professor Jun Chen, who serves as the international research adviser to one of Maksat Amantayev’s PhD students, expressed his willingness to continue the collaboration and help supervise additional doctoral students.

Maksat Amantayev received a certificate upon completing the academic visit.

He believes that cooperation with Chinese colleagues opens up new opportunities to advance agricultural engineering research and introduce cutting-edge technologies into Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector.

“China, like Kazakhstan, gives priority to the sustainable development of the agro-industrial sector and agricultural engineering research.

China has also made substantial technological progress, moving from mechanisation towards the integration of electronics, electrification and robotics.

This experience offers considerable opportunities for long-term, productive cooperation,” says Maksat Amantayev.
